Connor Di Maria was awarded a $1000 scholarship from Legacy West Chapter 66. Connor will be a freshman studying Exercise Physiology at the University of Arizona. He has been an avid volunteer for many years. Connor has been in the Scouting program since grade school and earned his Eagle Scout rank. He planned and lead a project at Saguaro National Park for his Eagle project. Before that, he volunteered many hours for various organizations in the community. Along with scouting, Connor was also a member of the National Honor Society and ran in Cross Country. Connor is still a competitive runner and will continue to train while in college.
Sophia Le was awarded a $1000 scholarship from the Chapter 66 Legacy West PTCC Scholarship. Sophia will be a freshman at the University of Arizona studying medicine and public health with an emphasis on service and promotion of health in her patients and the community at large. She started her volunteering experiences with the Strides Against Breast Cancer walks which inspired her to become more involved in her community through organizations such as the Maricopa County’s Empowered Youth Leaders Coalition and Banner Thunderbird Medical Center. Whether giving back to her community via large scale community events or helping out in a one-on-one setting, Sophia will continue to fulfill her purpose as an individual, community member and leader through her volunteer activities.
Karla Wilkins was awarded a $1000 scholarship from the Chapter 66 Legacy West SACC Scholarship. Karla will be a senior at Northern Arizona University finishing her Bachelors degree in Social Work. While volunteering at Flagstaff Family Food Center, Karla understood the need for visitors to feel respected and to receive trust and compassion from her as a representative. Her long term goals include opening her own practice and providing free to low-cost mental health services for low-income and vulnerable children and teens. Karla understands it is imperative to spread empathy throughout their community, especially through continued acts of community service.
